talk therapy
Talk therapy is what most people who are new to psychotherapy think happens in our offices. It’s the method that’s most commonly portrayed by the media. While it’s far from the only method that I use with my clients, it absolutely has its place. We’ll use it in every session, even if only for a few minutes.
Talk therapy fosters your connection with your therapist and brings a human element to other intervention methods.
how can talk therapy help me?
Talk therapy is how our relationship will begin. I’ll use it to learn about your history, your challenges, what brings you in, and your goals for your work with me. Talk therapy helps to break the ice and lights the way for our next steps and longer-term treatment plan.
As we go forward, I’ll use mindfulness-based talk therapy to help you integrate what you’ve learned from the other therapeutic methods. I believe that a well-rounded treatment plan includes an inside-out/outside-in approach. Talk therapy helps to anchor the latter and also keeps our therapeutic relationship feeling friendly and human.
